Rosie O’Donnell has officially relocated from the United States to Ireland with her youngest child, Dakota.
In a TikTok video shared on Tuesday, March 11, the 62-year-old actress and comedian expressed her delight about her new surroundings, stating, “I’m here in Ireland, and it’s beautiful and warm — not physically, it’s actually quite cold.” She revealed that she made the move just days before Donald Trump was inaugurated for his second presidential term earlier this year, specifically on January 15. “It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say,” she added.
O’Donnell praised the warmth and kindness of the Irish people since her arrival, expressing her gratitude. She mentioned, “I’m in the process of obtaining my Irish citizenship, as I have Irish grandparents. That’s what’s happening, and that’s where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing. Although I never envisioned moving to another country, I concluded that it was the best decision for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are.”
Rosie adopted Dakota, affectionately known as Clay, in 2013 with her late ex-wife Michelle Rounds, whom she was married to from 2012 until 2015. Her four older children—Parker, 29, Chelsea, 27, Blake, 25, and Vivienne, 22—were adopted with her first wife, Kelli Carpenter.
In the TikTok clip, she shared, “I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids. I miss my friends. I miss many aspects of life back home, and I’m working on establishing a home here in this beautiful country. We will consider returning to America when it is safe for all citizens to enjoy equal rights.”
Alongside her move to Ireland with Dakota, O’Donnell also brought her dog, Kuma. She expressed her joy, stating, “Kuma is with us and is thriving, absolutely loving the outdoors and enjoying walks along the cliffs that overlook the Irish Sea. Kuma is in paradise.” O’Donnell mentioned that she has been actively “exploring Ireland” and has encountered many friendly individuals during her travels. “Everyone has been welcoming,” she shared with her followers. “I have a wonderful friend named Tom who has taken me under his wing and shown me around Dublin, for which I am truly grateful.”
The news of O’Donnell’s relocation to Ireland comes less than a month after she honored her late co-star from Harriet the Spy, Michelle Trachtenberg, who passed away at the age of 39 last month. “It’s heartbreaking,” she remarked in a statement to Us Weekly on February 26. “I cared for her deeply. She faced many struggles in her final years. I wish I could have been of assistance.”
O’Donnell portrayed the nanny of Trachtenberg’s character, the titular sixth-grade detective, in the 1996 film Harriet the Spy, which depicted Harriet’s quest for revenge against classmates who revealed her notebook filled with secret observations. Last month, police sources confirmed to Us that the cause of Trachtenberg’s death was “not yet apparent” after she was discovered in her New York City apartment by her mother, Lana, although the circumstances were not considered suspicious. Reports indicated that the actress had undergone a liver transplant shortly before her passing, with a source close to Trachtenberg exclusively informing Us that she had been unwell “for a long time” and had experienced “back issues and subsequent bone problems.”
On February 27, the city medical examiner’s office informed the New York Post that Trachtenberg’s cause of death was classified as “undetermined” after her family declined an autopsy.
