A message displayed on the front window of a Dairy Queen restaurant in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, has ignited controversy on social media. The sign prominently features traditional holiday greetings such as “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Easter,” as well as expressions of appreciation for veterans on Veterans Day.
Kevin Scheunemann, the restaurant owner, defends the sign, explaining that it was installed nearly four years ago to openly demonstrate his and his staff’s dedication to serving both God and country. The sign was initially put up in response to a customer complaint regarding the playing of Christian music in the establishment, and it has not generated any further issues since its installation.
The sign recently attracted renewed attention when a tourist from Oregon shared a photograph of it on Facebook, leading to discussions about its inclusivity. While some individuals express support for the message, others have criticized the act of sharing the image. Local business owners have voiced their backing for Scheunemann’s decision, asserting that customers are welcome to leave if they find the message disagreeable.
The Dairy Queen corporation has clarified that Scheunemann’s viewpoint does not reflect the official position of the company and underscores the necessity of treating all customers with respect, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
